Twenty years ago my wife and I met with a few members of our church to discuss the creation of an event that would honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and help bring people together across the racial and cultural lines so often used to divide us.
Dr. King said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” His vision was that we would sit down “at the table of brotherhood.” That lesson has been forgotten by those who want us to turn our backs on each other as enemies because of the color of our skin.
For twenty years this Breakfast has been an opportunity to sit down at the table of brotherhood. People from all backgrounds, from all over the region have rallied to it, hungry to advance the cause of unity. I’d like to take this moment to invite you to join us for this landmark 20th breakfast, celebrating two decades since we began.
It will take place on this coming Monday, January 20th at 10 AM at the Chesapeake Marriott, 725 Woodlake Drive in Chesapeake, Virginia. We will recognize the many past honorees, celebrate this year’s award and scholarship winners and I will speak on: “America From A Divided Past to A United Future.” Space is running out, but tickets are still available online at theCalled.org. You may also call 757-485-7777.
Join us for a time of encouragement, inspiration and unity.
