MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to eight (8) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as human resources/confidential records management, supervisor, team lead, mentor and/or employee trainer experience and/or experience in a public safety field. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Please complete the application thoroughly even if you provide a resume and/or cover letter as a supplement. Account for all work experience, both related and unrelated, for a minimum of ten years, if available. Be specific about training, particularly in terms of NCIC/VCIN certification, records management training/certification (Library of Virginia, Association for Information, and Image Management, etc.), computer applications and other professional training/certifications. Must obtain VCIN Level A certification within 6 months of employment and maintain throughout course of employment. The Virginia Crime Information Network (VCIN) system is administered by the Virginia State Police. In order to qualify for VCIN certification, the State Police require that employees must be a U.S. citizen or must have lawfully resided in the U.S. for a ten-year period. Must successfully complete a police background investigation, including polygraph examination. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements. All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. |
Duties: | The Virginia Beach Police Department’s Support Division/Records Unit employs forty-five civilian personnel. The Public Safety Support Services Supervisor is one of three first-line supervisors, reporting to a Police Services Manager. The Public Safety Support Services Supervisor directly supervises 12-16 civilian employees who are engaged in a variety of work processes. Typically, the job entails overseeing various functions performed by both sworn and civilian personnel. The person selected for this position can expect to supervise a unit and/or rotate as supervisor of any of the Services units and will be responsible for being knowledgeable about the functions of each of the units within the division.

This position will provide direct oversight to a variety of positions with the duties utilizing various law enforcement and other information systems including but not limited to VCIN/NCIC, AXON RMS, PISTOL RMS, LINX, GOVQA, LIVESCAN, PERMITIUM, etc. Unit/Team oversight assignments are distributed between the Unit’s three (3) Public Safety Support Services Supervisors with cross training for fluidity of oversight. Individual may also serve as the unit’s subject matter expert for VCIN interface software and local police records management systems and/or FOIA requests, processes, and disseminations. Illegal possession of anabolic steroids within the last 36 months. |

At least two years in a formal or informal supervisory role and NCIC/VCIN Level A certification. |
